After taking a look last week at the top juniors from the spring on the offensive end of the field, it’s time to take a look at those standouts from that class on defense.

Here are five players from the 2025 class on defense that stood out among the rest this past spring in the Bluegrass:

Sam Alexander

State: Kentucky

School: Trinity

Club: Madlax

Named Mr. Lacrosse in the KSLL, Alexander helped lead the way for a Shamrock defense that aided in the program’s championship run. The Jacksonville commit proved to be the alpha pole for a defense that allowed an average of 3.37 goals per game during the final eight games of the season. Alexander is arguably the most versatile player in the Commonwealth with his ability to impact the game not only on the back end as a one-on-one defender but also in transition with his stick skills and speed.

Estrada led the way for the South Oldham defense this past spring, racking up 72 ground balls and 34 caused turnovers. He also added six points off three goals and three assists. He is great off the ground and has he speed, athleticism, confidence, and stick skills to cross the midline and make plays in transition.

Graham Hodge

School: Woodford County

An extremely disruptive pole, Hodge played a massive part in Woodford County’s run to the CLL title. Hodge is a strong on-ball defender who knows how to use both his stick and body to give his matchup fits. He has good speed and footwork that allows him to turn his man. The dual-sport athlete is also solid off-ball and will make gritty hustle plays. He caused 54 turnovers and grabbed 52 ground balls this past spring.

State: Kentucky

School: St. Xavier

Club: L4

Dobson was an uber-productive pole at the LSM position for the Tigers and helped make up a strong rope unit. Also playing defensive back in football, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound pole has a good amount of athleticism and speed. A disruptive pole both on and off-ball, Dobson’s best attribute is his ability to turn defense into offense in a jiffy. He is also very good at matching feet and being able to turn his man.

CLASS 2025

Charlie Twehues

School: Woodford County

Twehues went 63% at the faceoff dot for the Yellowjackets as a junior last spring. His impact, however, came in more ways than just winning draws to give his team extra possessions. A solid all-around midfielder, Twehues was particularly good as a defensive midfielder. He especially exhibited good footwork, physicality, and control in one-on-one situations. He had 32 caused turnovers and 180 ground balls.
