The history of denim shirts can be traced back to the 1800s when they were first made in the United States. The first denim shirts were made for cowboys, who wore them as a protective layer under their regular clothes. They were called "blue jeans" because of their color (denim is a type of blue cotton fabric).

Where does the word “denim” come from? Denim dates back to the 17th century. Created in Nîmes, France, serge de Nîmes was a cotton twill cloth made of wool and silk. It later became known simply as “denim.”

Levi Strauss patented his idea on May 20th 1873, and nowadays this date is considered to be the birthday of blue jeans.

Expensive raw materials cut into profit margins. Use the Right Needle:

You can buy a 'denim' needle for sewing denim & thicker fabrics. If you're using a standard needle make sure you're using at least a size 90/14 & for thicker denim use a 100/16. For a chambray or tencel denim style fabric an 80/12 universal needle will be fine.
