One Piece's final saga is quickly approaching. What can fans expect from the series going forward?
Eiichiro Oda is set to end One Piece's Wano Country arc, which has also been its longest to date. With the war against Big Mom and Kaido having finally wrapped up and Luffy having freed Wano, it is time for the crew to finally move out of the country for good and continue on their adventure, which means the story is now ever closer to its end. Earlier this week, Eiichiro Oda announced that One Piece is now entering its final saga – something that he is taking a month-long break to prepare for and write as efficiently as possible.
Previously, Oda mentioned the importance of the Wano Country arc to the fans and highlighted that its end will be heavily tied to the end of One Piece itself. What's more, Oda also mentioned that once Wano ends, the end of One Piece will finally be in sight. Finally, the story has reached that point and with each passing chapter, the Wano Country arc gets closer to its end. It has now been confirmed that One Piece will enter its final saga immediately after returning from a month-long break, on July 25, 2022, but what exactly should fans expect from it?

Usually, when Oda begins a new saga, it is to mark the start of a new story arc and that formula is likely not going to change here. Eiichiro Oda is likely going to wrap up the Wano Country within the next two chapters and then follow it up with the beginning of a new arc. Looking back at the Four Emperors Saga that began with Zou, the very first arc served as a major information dump for the fans and set up bigger events with the introduction of the Road Poneglyphs that Big Mom and Kaido had in their grasps.
Zou also established major plot points such as the formation of the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai alliance and the abduction of Sanji which led Luffy to travel to Whole Cake Island and clash against Big Mom's forces. Despite being a very concise arc, fans got to witness quite a lot in the Zou arc, and it's possible that something similar will be on the way once the new saga finally begins. It would make sense for One Piece to enter its post-Wano Country arc with Chapter 1054 and mark the beginning of the new saga that way.

However, Oda could very well skip over the post-Wano arc altogether and have the Straw Hats journey to a new island. This, however, would be rather confusing as the crew has massive things to unravel first, including the six Poneglyphs that they have in their possession currently. Furthermore, they also don't know where the last Road Poneglyph is and to reach that, they can't simply sail to wherever the Log Pose takes them.
As such, regardless of whether the first arc in the final saga is going to be the post-Wano arc or not, fans will likely see some information dump at its beginning. Following that, the crew can then leave Wano and head to wherever the last Road Poneglyph would be. It is also possible that the crew could hear news from the outside world and if they learn what's happened to Sabo, Vivi, and possibly even Hanco*ck, Luffy might set on a short detour to help them first and this could end up being the biggest driving force in the final saga of the story.
Being the end of the story, the final saga of One Piece is certainly going to see characters who are yet to make their move finally take up prominent positions in the story. Above everyone else, Red-haired Shanks comes to mind when thinking of the prominent characters in the final saga of the story. Shanks is one of the most important characters in the One Piece world and one Oda has kept on the sidelines for over two decades now.
Previously, Oda teased that the red-haired man would finally be making his move and this appears to be his time to shine. Fans should expect him to finally meet Luffy to see their promise being fulfilled and possibly even clash. Along with Shanks, Blackbeard is also going to be very important in the story, being Luffy's ultimate enemy. Other characters that fans should be looking forward to seeing more of are Monkey D. Dragon, Sabo, and some other members of the Revolutionary Army.

As far as plot points go, Oda has already outlined what the final saga of the series is going to tackle. First and foremost, Luffy has to become the Pirate King, and to do that, he needs the last Road Poneglyph. This could happen at someplace such as Elbaf, which has been heavily teased by Oda as one of the upcoming arcs in the past. After acquiring the Road Poneglyph, the time for Robin to shine may finally arrive.
Luffy and the crew will have to rely on her to take them to the Final Island where the Straw Hat captain will finally be crowned the Pirate King. Fans will also see every single member of the crew fulfill their dreams at this point become the most dangerous pirate crew in the world, surpassing even the Yonko. What comes next would have to be the Great War against the World Government that Oda has teased on several occasions. Fans are likely to see major revelations being made about the Void Century during this saga and finally see Luffy crush the supremacy of the Celestial Dragons to fulfill the Will of D and become the next Joy Boy.
