Manhattan DA says he wouldn't oppose Trump's request to have his hush money conviction tossed
The Manhattan district attorney’s office said Tuesday it would not oppose former President Donald Trump’s request to file a motion arguing that his conviction should be tossed, a move that will almost certainly delay Trump’s sentencing, which is currently set for July 11. “Although we believe defendant's arguments to be without merit, we do not oppose his request for leave to file and his putative request to adjourn sentencing pending determination of his motion,” assistant district attorney Josh Steinglass wrote in a letter to Judge Juan Merchan. On Monday, just hours after the U.S. Supreme Court issued its landmark ruling that President Donald Trump has some presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for actions taken to overturn results of the 2020 election, Trump's attorneys sent a letter to Judge Merchan asking to have his New York conviction thrown out, according to sources.

Person of interest taken into custody for attempted rape of Central Park sunbather: Sources
A person of interest has been taken into custody for the attempted rape of a woman sunbathing in Central Park last month, police sources told ABC News. The man, who has not been identified, has not been charged in the June 24 attempted sexual assault of a woman, but the sources said DNA links him to the incident. The 21-year-old woman was alone and sunbathing in the Great Hill section of the park when a man came toward her exposing himself around 1:30 p.m. last Monday, New York Police Department Chief of Patrol John Chell said last week.

Beryl bears down on Jamaica as a record-breaking Category 5 hurricane
As Hurricane Beryl strengthened to a Category 5 over the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea, it continued to break records by becoming the strongest July Atlantic hurricane on record. Packing maximum winds of 165 mph on Tuesday, Beryl surpassed the July record of 160 mph maximum winds produced by Hurricane Emily in 2005, according to the National Hurricane Center. Hurricane Beryl is expected to reach Jamaica on Wednesday and is forecast to produce rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches across the mountainous island country, with isolated amounts of up to 12 inches possible.

As the family of a 13-year-old boy who was killed by police in Utica, New York, demanded justice, the city's police chief alleged Monday that the teenager had a realistic-looking replica gun still in his hand when he was shot. The boy, identified as Nyah Mway, was shot once in the chest by a Utica police officer on Friday night after he and a friend were stopped on a street by officers investigating a robbery pattern, officials said. Hurricane Beryl upgraded to Category 5
Hurricane Beryl has been upgraded to a Category 5 and is being described as “potentially catastrophic,” the National Hurricane Center announced Monday night. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 160 mph, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Hurricane Hunters. Beryl is currently moving across the eastern Caribbean Sea after slamming into Carriacou Island in Grenada with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph as a Category 4, leaving at least one person dead, according to officials Monday.

Forty people were injured after an Air Europa flight from Spain to Uruguay experienced strong turbulence and was diverted to Brazil, officials said. Then on Monday, the Supreme Court decided that presidents do have some immunity from prosecution for official acts -- not quite the "absolute immunity" Trump has touted but still enough to offer some legal cover for his effort to overturn his 2020 loss and probably push back a decision in a special counsel case against him until after Election Day.

Warmer-than-usual ocean temperatures have allowed for the earliest-ever Category 4 hurricane on record to barrel through the Atlantic Basin, records show. Hurricane Beryl was a Category 4 storm Monday morning as it approached the Caribbean islands of St. Vincent, Grenadines, Grenada, and Carriacou and Petite Martinique islands – the first-ever hurricane recorded during the month of June. Sea surface temperatures are at record highs, with temperatures in the Atlantic, where hurricanes form, measuring two or three degrees Celsius higher than normal in the Caribbean Sea, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
