Governments worldwide are scrambling to combat both the biological and economic effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Given urban unemployment and poverty induced by the global pandemic, this paper asks if developing countries could use regenerative agriculture as a form of poverty alleviation. By using Rwanda as a case study, this paper analyzes two of the existent home-grown poverty alleviation initiatives for rural food security: Girinka (Have a cow) and Akarima k’igikoni (Kitchen Gardens). We investigate if the rural Akarima k’igikoni initiative could be implemented in urban areas. Using descriptive statistical data gathered during the pandemic in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, we found rainwater collection practices already well established. Rwanda Government, via its Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA) and authority in charge of Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) has instigated copious initiatives aimed at finding durable ensues to water scantiness in some country districts especially in Bugesera District. To date it lived by 453451 peoples with only 3600 m3/d available from Ngenda Water Treatment Plant (WTP) intents to treat cyohoha Lake. This research is conducted to handle water scantiness issues in Bugesera District with the aid of Gaharwa Lake. For attaining research directs, forms and onsite interrogates have been conducted, and Hazen–Williams equation has been used in designing processes. Therefore, the water treatment plant was designed with an awareness of water quality and quantity, population growth rate. The assessment of micro to small hydropower is very important for the electrical power generation of a country based on the hydrological data. This study has been conducted at Nyabarongo River Basin of Rwanda along with eights gauged stations with the purpose of assessing the hydropower potential based on micro to small hydropower potential sites. The hydrological data have been collected and analyzed and the missing data were filled by using the arithmetic mean, double mass curve was used to check its consistency. The arc SWAT with arc GIS were used for the identification of the sites and contour map was done by showing different heads which will help in calculation of the power output of the identified sites. Land susceptibility to the stormwater runoff in Nyabugogo river catchment area, Rwanda

In Rwanda, 40% steep slope land and rapid growing urbanization increase susceptibility of land to stormwater runoff. The objectives were to analyze causal factors of stormwater runoff in the study area, to identify the extent to which the study area is susceptible to stormwater runoff, and to generate stormwater runoff susceptibility map of the study area. The study area is Nyabugogo catchment which crosses the districts of the Eastern Province (Kayonza, Rwamagana, and Gatsibo), the Northern Province districts (Gicumbi and Rulindo), and other districts of Kigali city (Kicukiro, Nyarugenge, and Gasabo districts). The increasing demand for water results in the overexploitation of water resources. This situation calls for more effective water management alternatives including rainwater harvesting (RWH) systems. Due to the lack of biophysical data and infrastructure, the identification of suitable sites for various RWH systems is a challenging issue. However, integrating geospatial analysis and modeling approaches has become a promising tool to identify suitable sites for RWH. Thus, this study aimed at identifying suitable sites for RWH in the Nyabugogo catchment located in Rwanda by integrating a geo-information-based multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) and SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model.
